Every Monday night, my kids and I have family home evening. This is a Mormon tradition. This is the one night that we spend time together as a family doing nothing particular, and we have the area missionaries over to give a lesson. One of the important things for us is to provide a special dessert for the family and the missionaries after the lesson. Each week, I try to provide a healthy alternative for this treat, to make our treats healthier for us. This is one of those treats.

Banana-Graham (Malted) Milkshake

Ingredients:

Low Fat, No Sugar Added Vanilla Ice Cream
2 Peeled Bananas
2 Whole Graham Crackers
1/3 Cup Wheat Germ
Skim Milk
Malted Milk Powder to Taste (optional)

Substitutions:
Substitute Strawberries, Pineapple or other fruits for bananas and/or graham crackers for other combinations
Substitute Sugar Free Chocolate Sandwich Cookies for graham crackers

Directions:

Process wheat germ as fine as possible. Loosely fill blender pitcher 3/4 full with scoops of low fat, no sugar added vanilla ice cream. Add the processed wheat germ. Add skim milk until pitcher is 1/2 full (use less milk for thicker shakes). Blend slowly until mixture is even. Add graham crackers and (optional) malted milk powder. Blend slowly once more until crackers are spread evenly throughout. Add bananas and blend slowly once more until bananas are chopped. Do not liquefy. Serve immediately.

Makes 4-5 medium cups of malted milkshake.

Double amounts to make 8-10 medium cups of milkshake.
